Your License and Your Blood, please
Wow. Apparently in the US, laws have been added in each state since back in the early ’50s, saying that driving a car is implicitly giving consent to the police to ’search’ their blood, breath or urine. In recent years this has started getting more hostile. Alaska, Arizona, Iowa, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada and Texas have all now enacted statutes specifically allowing police to use force to obtain a blood sample when they suspect DUI and the driver won’t co-operate. A lot of doctors apparently have had ethical issues doing this, so in many places the police are taking the blood themselves.
